Funding is from Local Freight Impact Fund Program
to repair roads impacted by heavy truck traffic

CARTERET, NJ – The Borough has won a $466,000 grant from the NJ Department of Transportation’s Local Freight Impact Fund to improve three industrial roads serving the West Carteret industrial section, Mayor Daniel J. Reiman recently announced.

The funds will cover the reconstruction and resurfacing of Raskulinecz Road, Self Boulevard and Germak Drive.

“Heavy truck traffic has taken a toll on these roads,” Mayor Reiman said. “We are very grateful to Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Commissioner Priya Jain of the NJDOT for these much-needed funds to improve these roads.”

Commissioner Jain added, “NJDOT recognizes the role that transportation plays in the movement of people and needs. The Department encourages and supports the advancement of freight projects, which emphasize and enhance the safe movement of large truck traffic, renew aging structures that carry significant large truck traffic, promote economic development, and, above all, supports new transportation opportunities throughout our State. The completion of Carteret Borough’s project will help us achieve this goal and pursue a transportation strategy that continues to provide mobility in our state without increasing the tax burden on the residents of New Jersey.”

All the streets involved in the state- and municipally funded road project are in the vicinity of New Jersey Turnpike Exit 12 and contain warehouses and businesses belonging to a diverse array of companies, such as P.C. Richard & Son, Virginia Dare and DSV.
