Carteret Charges Two Liquor Stores with Serving Underage Persons, Suspends their Licenses for Seven Days

Carteret, NJ – The Borough has suspended the liquor licenses of two stores after the establishments were caught selling alcohol to an underage undercover Police Officer, according to charges filed by the Carteret Office of the ABC Counsel.

Liquor Shop at 787 Roosevelt Avenue violated N.J.A.C. 13:23 (1) on December 12, 2018 and Bottle Giant of Carteret at 101 Roosevelt Avenue violated the state statute on October 22, 2018, according to charges, which carry a 1st offense penalty of up to 15 days in liquor license suspension. A second violation of the statute carries a penalty of up to 30 days in liquor license suspension.

Both liquor stores were notified of the charges and a hearing was held on Monday, January 28, 2019, at which both licensees pled guilty and were each sentenced to a 7-day suspension by the Carteret Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman, chairman of the local ABC said “21 means 21, and undercover police officers will continue testing local establishments on a regular basis to ensure that patrons are carded sufficiently.”
