‘The Arthur’ mixed-use development opens in Downtown Carteret with courtyards, lounge, gym, 2-story parking garage & stunning rooftop views

CARTERET, NJ – The Arthur, a $41 million mixed-use development consisting of 153 apartments, a two-story parking garage and 4,885 square feet of first-floor retail, celebrated its grand opening on Nov. 7 in the Borough’s Downtown Cultural Arts & Business District.

Mayor Daniel J. Reiman participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and building tour with Borough Council members and the project’s development team from project partners Kalian Companies and Donald Epstein Family Properties.

“This project on lower Washington Avenue is part of the expanded redevelopment and the creation of a new downtown is something that we’ve talked and dreamed about for quite some time,” Mayor Reiman said. “Across the street is the beautiful Botanic. You see 27-29 Washington and a $50 million performing arts center that’s growing by leaps and bounds every day. This is part of the over $7 billion in private investment that’s happened in Carteret these past two decades.

“This particular project is very important to us, and we want to congratulate Donald Epstein and the Kalian family for this beautiful project here,” the Mayor continued. “The Arthur is an amazing multi-use, multi-purpose property in the heart of the Downtown developed by our good friends at Kalian Companies and Epstein Family Properties. This is the urban mixed-use that everybody strives for, and every town is trying to duplicate. I like to think that our administration is pro-development and is easy to work with.”

Located at 21 Washington Ave., The Arthur is part of more $300 million that has been invested in Downtown Carteret during the past five years, Mayor Reiman said.

“We’re proud and happy to be part of the regeneration of Carteret,” Don Epstein said. “The Mayor has a vision. If you look at this building, I can’t say that it’s a Kalian and Epstein vision. It’s the Mayor’s design. It’s great working with the administration. It’s great to see the growth here, and there’s a lot more growth to come. We hope to be part of any additional growth as we move on.”

Mayor Reiman added, “Today with the grand opening and celebration of The Arthur and the community gathered here with the Epstein family and the Kalian family, we want to congratulate you on the official grand opening of The Arthur here on Washington Avenue. We look forward to working with you to fill the retail space and help attract the best tenants.”

The Arthur features a gorgeous third-floor courtyard that boasts two large screen TVs, two grills, vast amounts of decorative flora and seating, and a turf center space. A well-decorated lounge complete with a kitchen leads right to the courtyard. Nearby is a well-equipped gym.

Still under construction, the rooftop features stunning views of the New York City skyline. Rooftop amenities include an outdoor kitchen.

The Arthur is about one-third leased residentially. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments are available. One of an expected four commercial tenants have signed leases.
