Carteret Contracts with Robert Wood Johnson Health Network to Provide Daytime EMS Services

CARTERET, NJ – Mayor Daniel J. Reiman today announced the Borough of Carteret has contracted with the Robert Wood Johnson Health Network of Rahway to provide fully licensed Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including Advanced Life Support Services (ALS) and Basic Life Support ambulance services (BLS) from 6 am to 6 pm 7 days a week.

“RWJ is a regional leader in the healthcare industry and Carteret is proud to work with their services to provide coverage to our residents,” said Mayor Reiman.

EMS services from 6 pm until 6 am will continue to be provided by certified EMT’s from Carteret’s Emergency Services Unit.

“With a statewide shortage of EMTs due to the pandemic, contracting with the largest healthcare provider in the state will ensure available services,” said Carteret Fire Chief Mark Hruska. “Every EMT licensed in the state of New Jersey is trained to the same level of certification, so quality of services will remain at the same high level our residents trust and rely on.”

RWJ EMTs are certified by the New Jersey Department of Health and receive considerable additional training above and beyond the minimum state level.

“RWJBarnabas Health’s Mobile Health Services team is highly skilled and trained to respond to wide a range of medical and traumatic emergencies,” said Jim Smith, Vice President of Mobile Health Services at RWJBarnabas Health.  “We are proud to serve the Carteret community and collaborate with Carteret Police Department and Fire Department, to provide rapid emergency response, initial patient treatment and stabilization and transportation to the most appropriate hospital.”

Carteret will continue to recruit additional full time and per diem EMTs. Employment applications are available on Carteret.net.
