Carteret Fire Department to Bolster Fire Prevention Efforts with FM Global Grant

Carteret, NJ – The Carteret Fire Department has received a $2,500 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest property insurers.   FM Global representatives presented the award to Chief Brian O’Connor at the Carteret Fire Department Headquarters in April. The award will be used to assist with prefire planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings.  The information will help the fire service respond in an emergency situation.

“We’ve maintained the highest standards for our emergency service departments in spite of current financial challenges,” Mayor Daniel J. Reiman commented. “This fire prevention award is a welcome grant during a time when we’re expanding and improving our emergency services while pulling the reins in on public spending.”

Because fire continues to be the leading cause of property damage worldwide, during the past 30 years FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of New Jersey-based organizations.

“This grant will help us to better pre-plan local industries,” Chief Brian O’Connor stated, “with the latest software technology. This is one of many preventative measures our team has been working toward in recent months, which I’m sure will make a tangible difference in the safety of our residents and businesses.”

Through its Fire Prevention Grant Program (www.fmglobal.com/grants), FM Global awards grants quarterly to fire departments—as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations worldwide—that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it can quickly cause.

For 175 years, more than one out of every three FORTUNE 1000 companies and similar-sized organizations operating in nearly 200 countries work with FM Global (www.fmglobal.com) to develop robust risk management solutions to protect their business operations from fire, natural disasters and other types of property perils. Headquartered in Johnston, R.I., FM Global ranks 766 among FORTUNE magazine’s largest companies in America. The company has been named “Best Property Insurer in the World” according to Euromoney magazine, rated number one “for overall product and service quality” according to Strategic Risk magazine and named “Best Global Property Insurer” by Global Finance magazine.

“This grant will help us to better pre-plan local industries,” Chief Brian O’Connor stated, “with the latest software technology. This is one of many preventative measures our team has been working toward in recent months, which I’m sure will make a tangible difference in the safety of our residents and businesses.”

“At FM Global, we believe strongly that the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” added Michael Spaziani, manager of the fire prevention grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets limit those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients can make a difference in helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
