Councilman Randy Krum named Council President,
Council Vice President Vincent Bellino,
Councilman Jorge Diaz start new terms
CARTERET – At the Borough Council’s Jan. 6 reorganization meeting, Mayor Daniel J. Reiman swore in newly named Council President Randy Krum and recently re-elected council members Jorge E. Diaz and Vincent Bellino, who will serve as Council Vice President.
In accepting his one-year post as Council President, Council President Krum said he was grateful to have served with the Mayor for such a historically long time.
“We have a great team here,” he said. “I also would like to thank my council mates and the residents of Carteret for seeing what this great Administration and Council gets done. I look forward to continue moving Carteret in the right direction.”
That direction includes:
- Further Arthur Kill waterfront redevelopment with a forthcoming ferry, the terminal for which broke ground last month; a Riverwalk that nearly has completed construction, and a proposed movie studio and hotel
- More than $300 million in the downtown redevelopment of several mixed-use properties and great new restaurants, such as Ou La, Lab X and Sal’s Bistro & Bar
- Many park improvements with county and municipal Open Space and state Green Acres funds
- Major investments in municipal infrastructure, such as repaved streets and repaired sewers and storm-water systems.
“Thank you to my family, friends, colleagues, and the residents of Carteret who have placed their trust in me once again,” Councilman Diaz said. “Being re-elected to my eighth term is truly humbling, and I do not take that trust lightly. Tonight is not just about taking an oath; it’s about renewing a commitment. A commitment to listen. A commitment to lead with integrity. A commitment to make decisions that put the people of Carteret first — always.”
Council Vice President Bellino added, “I am truly honored and thankful to the residents of Carteret for the opportunity to serve another term. I look forward to continuing to work hard with my colleagues on the council and the mayor to strengthen our community and its future.”
Mayor Reiman is in the last year of a record sixth consecutive four-year term. He is the first person in the history of the Borough to be elected to six consecutive four-year Mayoral terms. Originally elected to the Borough Council in 2000 at the age of 24, the Mayor went onto become the youngest person ever elected mayor in Carteret at 26 in 2002.
Under Mayor Reiman’s administration, Carteret has pursued and received hundreds of millions in grant funding, as well as more than $3 billion in private investment. The administration also has won landmark awards and settlements against past chemical operators who polluted and abandoned parcels of property in the Carteret Industrial and Waterfront zones.
Carteret, which was voted “The Best Town in Central Jersey” in a 2018 Home News Tribune Readers’ Poll, has a thriving economy with Fortune 500 companies, such as Amazon, FedEx, NASDAQ, Equinix, Graybar Electric, and COSMAX calling it home.
